Thom Yorke caricature

Ive been inspired by some caricature art recently and spent the last 3-4 days entheausiastically working on this image of the lead singer of Radiohead's very charismatic face.
My lack of experience with caricature art has meant that the likeness could be a lot better, but im very pleased with the result as it was very quick to do, and i was able to learn a little about Mental ray's materials and final gathering to produce a 'proper' looking render that i felt i have been unable to achieve in the past.
I felt like i have achieved and learnt something by doing this - a feeling i havent had for some time now.

It is entirely 3d with some minor colour control and level alteration in photoshop. Textures were all cut and pasted from various high-res photos of Thom Yorke. stubble & eyebrows generated using max's hair plugin, then turned to geomertry.

Here are some WIP images and closeups:
When i finish modeling a character, im usually in a rush to finish the job and move on, so i normally do a simple multi-pose image on a white background.
I Wanted to do these illustrations as they feel more 'complete' and descriptive of the character. Plus, im doing these to submit to the Exotique book, and it seems to favour 'illustrations' rather than simple pose sheets.
Well, heres Suzie chilling out with a beer or 2 on a hot day with the curtains (mostly) closed.

Hi folks - long time no see.

Ive been doing a fair bit of freelance work of late, but ive recently had time to start making a set of illustrations of Suzie. I was bored and figured they were more intresting than a bunch of poses on a white background like i usually do.

Ive been very inspired by 40s and 50s era pinup illustrations by artists like Gil Elvgren, Dan De Carlo, Don flowers and Jack cole, not to mention modern artists like Dean Yeagle - who's Mandy character was the main inspiration for Suzie. Im hoping this is a fitting homage to that cheeky humour of old.
I also had some tips from an old art director friend to try and get the composition spot on. I hope it shows.

I should have a few more of these to show featuring Suzie in her different outfits when i get round to creating them.

Hope you like it!
After my trip to Tokyo earlier this year, and seeing its culture in person, I came back inspired to make this Harajuku teeny-bopper!
Harajuku is an area in Tokyo that is popular with young, hip, carefree Tokyoites and has crazy music, fashion and all sorts of wierd sights you wouldnt get back home.
The design was by myself, though I was inspired by some Tokyo fashion photography, as seen in the book "Fruits" by Shoichi Aoki.
Another reason for making this was to see if I could make a better and more appealing character than my previous successful effort - Bunny girl! I hope others find it an improvement too!

Thought id make another one of Takehito Harada's designs - I love her character style! I hope she doesnt mind!
Shes 3632 triangles, and her bunny doll is 1596 tri's. Max cannot celshade it in real time in the viewport, but there are several games around using current technology that can achieve this look. It was Celshaded using the Ink n' paint shader.
The whole thing took about 3 to 4 days of work.

Ive been replaying 'Jet set radio future' recently (old Xbox launch title) purely on its artistic merits and excellent soundtrack. It has inspired me to create this fella. Hes a 17 year old tokyo kid who gets around using his anti-grav in-line skates.
I have already made a lot of celshaded characters, so i chose to go for a more realistic look. He's 5188 triangles, and I used 1 512x512 and 1 256x256 map.

Having been making lots of stylised and anime-esque characters recently, I thought i'd try my hand at realism for a change.
I was trying for very contrasty, yet warm and sunny lighting. I used Mental ray's Skin shader for the head, and simple transparent polygon hair strips.
The raw render and the Ambient occlusion pass were multiplied together and softned in photoshop, and a small amount of manual touch-up was applied to the hair where there were gaps.
Im quite pleased with the end result, despite not having the time to use more advanced techniques like procedural hair or depth of field properly.
I think ill stick to stylised stuff - realism is boring methinks!
Let me know what you think. Its my first proper attempt at photo-realism...

Ive been working on this for a while in the games forum.
After playing silent hill 2&3 a lot, and seeing the trailers for silent hill 4, i thought id give it a go myself.
I wanted to create a creature similar to the ones in the game - not typical scary monsters, but a messed up perversion of the human form in a japanese horror style.
Its kinda hard to make out on this pic. I have lots of images to show, but I dont think you can post multiple images for the 1st post. Ill post the rest once this one is up.
